"It is the world's first case in which a small-size primate recovered from a spinal injury using stem cells," professor Hideyuki Okano of Tokyo's Keio University told AFP. ; y, k: x z a6 T2 Q, K7 W. P4 X4 S) u- A( o2 G
Okano's research team, which earlier helped a mouse recover its mobility in a similar treatment, injected so-called induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells into a paralysed marmoset, he said. 6 ^- j) {6 h, E, o# L- y( J( x1 d$ o) R( F

The injection was given on the ninth day after the injury, considered the most effective timing, and the monkey started to move its limbs again within two to three weeks, Okano said. 9 u; A& b( W& q$ y1 U - O- X2 z- |: e9 L. c: D"After six weeks, the animal had recovered to the level where it was jumping around," he told AFP. Embryonic stem cell research is controversial because human embryos are destroyed in order to obtain the cells capable of developing into almost every tissue of the body.& A! v' b6 Y! s- V- Y1 u+ ?/ l4 ^
2 l! y, R' V' I2 ]% dThe team planted four types of genes into human skin cells to create the iPS cells, according to Kyodo News.

y. ]" N6 K, s; K$ P/ o" D8 I, B, s
1 L" M1 F, f& a8 z ' ?) Y) I( J" p6 G参考:德科学家发现蝾螈肢体再生原理 或可造福人类 4 `0 }7 D" ~0 A" B5 S1 b2 Mhttp://www.stemcell8.cn/forum.ph ... mp;page=1#pid238417* j* G& u& Z+ i3 c% n) q
9 m* G, {9 r1 x3 b. S+ d P
