miRNA* 是 pre-miRNA 上的一段 RNA，其位置恰好与成熟的 miRNA 相对。虽然 Dicer 在对pre-miRNA 的加工过程中能够产生RNA 双链中间体，但是这种中间体通常寿命比较短暂而不易被探测。不过，如果大量的前体均可产生并只产生一种 miRNA，则其双链中的星号链也可以成为成熟的 miRNA。

最早出处：mmu-miR-28a* is a mature microRNA annotated in miRBase. The star represents that a mature microRNA is expressed from both the 5'-arm and the 3'-arm. In this case the hsa-miR-28a is expressed form the 5'-arm and the mmu-miR-28a* is expressed from the 3' mature sequence
