( |6 {% ]. j3 QOn the cover: Nr4a1-dependent Ly6Clow monocytes are a subset of phagocytic white blood cells. Using a combination of intravital and transmission electron microscopy, Carlin et al. (pp. 362–375) show that they act as housekeepers of the vascular endothelium by patrolling the inside of blood vessels. These monocytes scavenge microparticles from endothelial cells in a steady state. They also recruit neutrophils to endothelial cells that signal a local threat sensed via Toll-like receptor 7 to mediate endothelial cell necrosis and scavenge cellular remnants.
