Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells can be expanded in vitro using serum-free media. Since the concentrations of inhibitors (e.g. TGF-beta) and other constituents vary between batches of sera, serum-free media are often preferred to minimize such variables. StemSpan™ SFEM (serum-free expansion medium) and StemSpan™ H3000 (xeno-free medium) support the maintenance and expansion of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. StemSpan™ SFEM also supports the expansion of dendritic cells.
