I have taken fish oil in the past in an attempt to lower cholesterol as recommended by some in the medical field.8 b  ?$ [) r# r2 i( |
The fish oil, taken for over a year had little or no effect on my numbers.& m4 \3 m6 d; K6 S: S
I began using a proprietary blend of Chia (www.mykindofgrain.com), a plant based whole raw food with 3000mg ALA in a serving (short chain omega3's). * Q0 j( R* M$ [4 _  x" I3 b
$ w) t! d7 a5 G+ O
In less than 6 months, my cholesterol was reduced by 30 points. All other factors remaining the same. This product was also tested against a leading statin and matched the results in a 3 month study.# \$ b: n- I7 J; ?$ o5 H* \

9 Q2 |; ?) c- @8 H8 VAnother difference that I learned from my research into this topic is that ALA, after consumed, converts to DHA/EPA. The only difference being that your body is doing the conversion as opposed to the fish...

Regulators can say what they want and label as they see fit but everyone should keep in mind that the plant based Omegas are a serious threat to the fish oil industry (trillion dollar industry?) and there will be some serious lobbying to keep it that way!

For myself, I have found that unscrupulous suppliers "overlook" the fact that short-chain vegetable omega-3 oils do not provide the desired metabolic effect of the fish oil derivitive. I am also aware that some hen egg producers feed their chickens on fish oils to increase egg DHA - unfortuneately the egg ends up with a fishy "whiff".3 ]( |1 o5 K/ e, D
! ?9 b" x" Q8 n
Labelling is needed so that we the customers a'int fooled!
