摘要:Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been isolated from bone marrow, periosteum, trabecular bone, adipose tissue,

+ o& L# D, M8 g# H# G! Dlineages, including bone, fat, cartilage and muscle. A great deal has been learned in recent years about the isolation and( k! N7 p: r3 c7 w1 @% g9 {" [
characterization of MSCs, and control of their differentiation. These cells have generated a great deal of interest because of
9 @$ a0 J) k3 h/ V$ v' c) ]# qtheir potential use in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering and there are some dramatic examples, derived from both
. D+ r) N: G5 B7 ppre-clinical and clinical studies, that illustrate their therapeutic value. This review summarizes recent findings regarding the6 ]  _& F5 |: T; f
potential clinical use of MSCs in cardiovascular, neural and orthopaedic applications. As newmethods are developed, there are" G" T5 o8 Z& g, T: H
several aspects to the implanted cell–host interaction that need to be addressed before we can fully understand the underlying
0 v) W+ l& [6 C1 w% R# [6 rmechanisms. These include the host immune response to implanted cells, the homing mechanisms that guide delivered cells0 l8 l. V% u( C/ _; x
to a site of injury and the differentiation in vivo of implanted cells under the influence of local signals.
