Thepotentialoftheseadultstemcells,termedmultipotentadultprogenitorcells(MAPCs),werethesubjectofresearchreportedinNatureinJune2002.Today'spublishedresearchfindingsshowspecificcelldifferentiationforaspecificgoal.Whilethistypeofcelldifferentiationhasbeenshowntooccurfromembryonicandneuralstemcells,thisisthefirsttimeadultbone-marrow-derivedcellshavebeenshowntogeneratedopaminelikeneurons.
