On the cover: The skin is constantly exposed to carcinogenic insults such as UV light, and RAS mutations frequently give rise to epidermal tumors. Epidermal loss of the polarity protein Par3 prevents papilloma formation but promotes keratoacanthoma formation, highlighting both tumor-promoting and -suppressing activities of Par3 in skin carcinogenesis. On the left is a typical papilloma (tree, H&E stain) expressing Par3 (depicted as leaves) and on the right is a typical keratoacanthoma formed in Par3-deficient mice (rock, keratin1-stained). The colored waves in the foreground illustrate the multilayered epidermis. See Iden et al., pp. 389–403.
