Abstract: Mechanism of carcinogenecity and cancer progression has been explored for decades, however it is5 P) R6 s, S! d
still unclear because of the complexity of carcinogenesis progress, the limited techniques, and lack of* V! g: S5 g o
knowledgements. Recently, cancer stem cells from several types of tumors were isolated, identified and preliminarily
# v& n/ `% R) ccharacterized, which might provide a novel clue for explanation of tumorigenesis and establishment of. N1 e# p- t0 @* x& r3 @6 t) U
novel strategy of effective chemotherapy. Many reports have suggested that cancer stem cells possessed the6 y" Y: J% k* X. O
properties of self-renewal, strong potentials of proliferation, which might play important roles in progression,
* d5 C& k* g9 h0 crecurrence and metastasis of cancer. Meanwhile, chemotherapeutic failure may be associated with the drug: ^5 V4 i$ ?. q/ W; w2 l
resistance of cancer stem cells. This review described the recent progress in cancer stem cell research as well as+ m* K4 P3 S' W
many problems that remained to be solved.
