Abstract: Embryonic stem (ES) cells are able to self-renew and differentiate into all kinds of human cells. Due to
/ h0 d& e. V$ ^- Vtheir unique properties, ES cells are used in diverse fields of biological research,particular in developmental, G% j7 t3 Y8 {% T+ }
biology. Meanwhile, their potential medical application become a research hot-spot worldwidly. Since preimplantation
2 p4 M2 Q, Y6 n. m; yeggs are sources to generate ES cells, the use of embryonic stem cells is therefore controversial.
O8 Q1 o( E# ^, D4 a5 hThis review will outline characterization of ES cells, regulation of self-renewal, and the applications of the cell7 u3 r6 N, N5 s
in treating diseases, as well as ethical issues related to human ES cells research.
