Stem cell biology is emerging as a field in biology with tremendous therapeutic potential./ U- O4 ?+ a$ }0 K$ Y
Making this potential a reality requires an international effort. The recognition5 z+ E+ S* b/ y) f2 ^, L5 Y
that such a promising yet multifaceted discipline needs fostering led to the establishment) M$ m1 e8 }3 n
of the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR). Central to the efforts of the
1 a3 ]! W2 ~' X$ uISSCR is the development of tools to ensure the success of stem cell researchers. What
! ~2 L* O% T7 K" F2 Y8 lbetter way to do this than to collaborate with Current Protocols to develop this valuable
% l' M  M# x9 F2 Ycompendium of protocols in stem cell biology?
! x( p0 A( ]9 a0 @/ ?Stem cell researchers have developed a number of breakthrough techniques, from the0 v1 j( P; \! |6 v# K1 k
derivation and manipulation of pluripotent embryonic stem cells to purification and

have become leaders in the field as a result of developing such techniques. The more

  }# c1 I4 N: n% e+ m0 \1 {laboratories, the faster stem cell biology will advance our understanding of normal6 U8 X8 W- W4 s% K
development and lead to the development of therapies. Thus, the availability of quality
* B7 W" R/ Z* [- Y3 s& F& Cprotocols will have amajor impact on the success of the entire field. Current Protocols has  z5 L& r* t3 g4 |. e8 ^( {# W
long been the premier volume for proven in-depth protocols regarding many aspects of

and am drawn by the need to translate our research findings into therapies to help treat a
